There are two types of formats that are used when filming a television drama, these are single camera techniques and multi-camera techniques.
SINGLE CAMERA TECHNIQUES
A single camera technique is when a production such as documentaries, dramas and comedies use just one camera for filming; every shot and angle is used with the same camera. An example of a single camera drama is The Walking Dead, the whole drama is filmed on a '16mm film'.
Some advantages of using single camera techniques is that the film doesn't have to be shot in a sequence, it is also cheaper as apposed to a multi-camera film and is easier to set up and move around. The disadvantage of using single camera techniques would be that the camera would always have to be moving around to shoot different shots from different angles and perspectives.

MULTI-CAMERA TECHNIQUES
A multi-camera setup uses a variety of different cameras to shoot different shots at once, this means that you don't have to shoot again to get a new angle, all the shots are done at the same time from different angles so it would save time as it would be quicker. Multi-camera techniques are also good with continuity - shooting from different angles at the same time eradicates the risk of having to shoot the same scene again and it not being the same or flowing similarly. An example of a multi-camera series is; How I Met Your Mother, it is filmed on a TV set which allows a lot of extra room for more cameras.

SERIES & SINGLE
There are two types of TV drama - series drama or single drama.
A series is where there is many episodes of a TV show which make up more than one series. A single drama is where there is only one episode of that TV programme. An example of a long running series is 'Orange is the New Black' - they are one hour episodes. A whole series is usually uploaded to Netflix the date it is released.
Unlike a single drama where the key plot will be resolved at the end of the episode, a series drama will run for a while to allow the plot to develop and take its time to resolve the key plot. Cyberbully is a single episode which was an hour long and the plot was resolved at the end.
